e-Learning Tools for Summer Curriculum Development Projects
Unit: Academic Technology (All Units)
As many of you head off for summer professional or personal activities, Academic Technology wishes to announce a set of e-Learning Tools that are available for your use in creating instructional content and curriculum materials. This email is going to students, as well as to faculty and staff, since many students are interested in such tools as well, for use in completing assignments or their own instructional materials.
- Respondus 2 is a powerful tool for creating and managing exams and surveys that can be printed to paper or published directly to Blackboard. Instructors who use test banks from publishers will also like Respondus since they can import many such test banks and then select the questions they wish for exams. Instructors can also share test banks created in Respondus, making it easier to share across sections of the same course. Technology Skill Required: Novice.
- Lectora 2003 is a multimedia authoring and publishing tool for the creation and delivery of custom interactive content, with publication to Blackboard or CD-ROM as two possible distribution methods. For example, Lectora might be used to create a tutorial on a specific content area, combined with a series of questions to test knowledge of that content. Technology Skill Required: Intermediate to Advanced.
Academic Technology has licensed these two software programs for use on Gallaudet computers and the personal computers of any faculty, staff, or registered student. You may download the software at http://software.gallaudet.edu/licensed. To download licensed software from the software web site, you must enter your GDOC username and password. [If you don't remember your GDOC username or password, please go to http://passwords.gallaudet.edu.]
Note: If your Gallaudet computer is on the CAMPUS domain (managed by Information Technology Services), you may not be able to install software on that computer. Submit a service request via http://helpdesk.gallaudet.edu, indicating the software you wish and the location of your computer.
Learning Technology, a unit within Academic Technology, will provide instructional workshops on these and other software programs this summer. The schedule is at http://learntech.gallaudet.edu/events. Faculty may also request one-on-one support via the e-Learning Facilitator assigned to their academic department (http://learntech.gallaudet.edu/staff).
Best wishes for a productive and enjoyable summer!
